Monarch: From caterpillar to a full fledged butterfly

While working in the yard, I came across this caterpillar that I had never seen before, and was really taken by the colors and the size (it was about 5 inches long).

Paige immediately named it "Stripey". Well, we placed Stripey in Paige's bug collector after I took some pictures and after dinner - we noticed that Stripey had started to make a cocoon! What do we have here????? Scmmrrrrrr.

The first picture was taken on August 26th, 2007, and the "release" happened today September 8th, 2007. 13 lucky days!

Haleakala at dawn

Haleakala at dawn, originally uploaded by -SPK.

The peak of Haleakala volcano, at 10,023 feet (3055 m) above sealevel is the highest point on Maui, the third-highest point in the state and may be the "peak" of your experience at Haleakala National Park.

This was taken in July 2002 on our honeymoon. We will be heading back there this October for our 5th anniversary after my work trip.

I love this picture of Beck and was messing around with fd's Flickr Toys (http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/) and made this.

What you are looking at is a picture I took at about 11 pm last night in our kitchen.

Needless to say, we have a very interesting evening.

Jessica & Paige

Jessica & Paige, originally uploaded by -SPK.

My niece Jessica and Paige spinning around in the yard.

I can't believe how old Jessica is already, and I'm looking at a picture of my brother's daughter and my own.

Time flys by kids - enjoy every second of it today!

Kaitlyn at the pool

Kaitlyn at the pool

Paige and Kaitlyn have been enjoying their new pool this summer. It's one of those blow-up ones, but it stands like 30" high so they can really get wet, swim and play hard.

This was taken last week when Mom was over. I like the stop-action of it and her expression. It almost says 1,000 words. Hahahahah. OK, it wasn't that funny, I know.

Wrong ball, coach!

If I ever decide to coach the girls sports teams, you can GUARANTEE that I will try something like this.

Bumble and pollen

Bumble and pollen

Here is a bumble bee burying himself in our Hosta flowers. The yellow speckles you see on his abdomen are flecks of pollen.

Taken yesterday with the Sigma 150 mm on a tripod, cropped, lightened post production in Picasa.

Afternoon quench

Afternoon quench

Taken with Sigma 150mm macro lens today on the deck. I've been wanting to take something like this for a while, and I'm pretty happy with the results. This could hang somewhere to give a nice green accent.

That dock

Southwest Harbor dock

This is the Southwest Harbor, ME dock built for the owners of the Western Way Condos.

The Street

The Street

Taken the same evening as this photo. This 15 second exposure captured a windy, rainy evening in Easton, PA as a car drives by. If you look at the little pear tree on the right - doesn't it look like the shadow is a of a man?

Slippery when wet

Slippery when wet, originally uploaded by -SPK.

The unfortunate driver of this Jeep struck a fire hydrant exactly 8 years ago today. I was an EMT/Firefighter in Warren Township NJ at the time.

The red shale you see in the foreground was strewn there from the water after the hydrant exploded. It was a classic "water in the air" shot. (but too dark for a good photo)

Posted for my favorite website: shutterday.com Slippery When Wet.

Love you Homer!
